Prowess have launched a major new report providing a comprehensive overview of the state of women’s enterprise across the UK. It includes the latest start-up and growth statistics for the English regions and developed nations and provides policy recommendations on how national and regional government can further support women’s enterprise.

Key findings include:

Women are more likely than men to think that social, ethical and environmental considerations in business are important (59% compared to 48%).

Women are moving from employment to self-employment predominantly from the education. healthcare and community work sectors.

Women from the black community (particularly African Caribbean) are among the most entrepreneurial of all groups.

A study Commissioned by Yellow Pages reveals that the enterprising over-50’s who decide to go it alone by setting up their own businesses are contributing a staggering £24.4 billion to the UK economy per year. Read more…

More than 50 local people gathered at Dover Castle recently for the official launch of the East Kent Enterprise Gateway. They heard how the Gateway is helping entrepreneurs in the Dover / Thanet / Canterbury area start their own businesses.

The Gateway offers one-to-one assistance providing guidance and acting as a signposting service for the best sources of support, depending on individual needs.

A number of the entrepreneurs who are working with the Gateway described their businesses.
